Can you use Vsnap with Facebook?

By Trish Fontanilla, Community Manager at Vsnap

We’re not integrating with Facebook just yet, in fact we’re going with a LinkedIn integration first (more on that later), but we wanted to give you a quick run through in case you wanted to share a vsnap on FB.

If you’ve ever tweeted out a vsnap, you know that when you share a vsnap via our site, we shorten the link for you. For a Facebook share, you need to head to your main Vsnap feed, click on the vsnap you’d like to share, then grab the long URL from the browser bar like the picture below.

Once you grab that link, jump over to Facebook and paste it directly into the box where you’d normally input a status message. Facebook grabs the thumbnail from your vsnap, the title, and description (not the attachments). The vsnap does not play in Facebook, so your recipient will be taken to our site when they click on the link. Once they’re on Vsnap.com, they’ll be able to download any attachments (if you’ve added any).

A couple notes:

  • Our analytics do not show whether or not someone has looked at your vsnap on Facebook, so if you do want to track it, we’d suggest using a site like bit.ly to shorten the vsnap link and keep track of how many people have clicked on it.
  • Vsnaps cannot be delivered to the email addresses that Facebook has now defaulted to on your profile (as in vsnapexample@facebook.com). Did you know that they did that? A lot of folks didn’t, so be sure to change the email address in your profile to one that you’d like people to use.
  • The reply button does not appear on these vsnaps because technically, you have not sent them directly to anyone (much like vsnaps shared via Twitter).
  • Remember, vsnaps work best when they’re directed to someone (or a group), so don’t forget to personalize the title of the vsnap and the greeting.
Have any questions? As always, feel free to email/vsnap me, tweet or comment below.
